Application for second curator autumn 21 - spring 22
Hi! My name is Olle Jonsson and I am running for the post as Gotland nation’s second curator autumn semester 2021 to spring semester 2022.
I am 22 years old, born and raised in Gävle, and studying my master’s here in Uppsala in museum and cultural heritage.
I have long heard about Uppsala’s student life and Gotland’s nation in stories by my sister, when we both studied but at different universities. I chose to study my candidate’s degree at Linnaeus University in Kalmar. Quite a beautiful coastal town in my opinion, but certainly no “student-paradise”. No nations, no gasques, very few student pubs and the fresher’s reception was not exclusive for only students. Several of the students were also from Kalmar or the surrounding area, so I stood out with my distinct “northern” accent. Although there were student unions and associations, these were more involved among teacher and medical students and not us historians.
Fast forward to today, and I am finally a part of Uppsala’s student life and Gotland’s nation, and I absolutely love it! The sittings, the traditions, the general student- and nation-culture, and my absolute favourite: the songbooks, are just a few of the student life I have missed to experience as a student. The first thing on my “to do”-list when moving was to look up the nation and enrol myself. My commitment was also strengthened by the on-going pandemic, as the restrictions took me further away from family and friends back in Gävle, and closer to the nation; my new “Uppsala family”. Becoming a functionary was definitely one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The desire to apply for a curatorial position came shortly afterwards based on the closeness and community the nation offers, and the enormous amount of experience you get back.
I think I would fit in well as the nation’s second curator as I am very driven in organization and administration. I am responsible and always want to make sure to give everyone a pleasant and professional treatment. I am a creative, open and honest person, but no one perfect, so I do not hesitate to ask for help or to ask my own questions. When I am not studying or working, I alternate my everyday life with long forest walks, board game evenings, and to experiment with my taste buds in cooking.
I am fully aware that I lack both knowledge and experience in economics and about the nation, as I am still relatively new as an active member. But I am very driven in my work and love for the nation. I am eager to learn and it is clear that help and guidance is on the way up to and during my sitting period.
I hope to see you at the Landskap! Best regards, Olle
